Man Charged After Crash With Cruiser on Route 83

The crash took place while an offer was headed to a call.

A Vernon man is scheduled to appear in court on Jan 7 to answer a DUI charge after a crash with a police cruiser, according to an arrest report.

At 11:37 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Miriam Resnikoff was on Route 83 - Talcottville Road - en route to a call, police spokesman Lt. William Meier said. Meier added her lights and siren were on.

As the cruiser came upon the driveway to 631 Talcottville Road, Resnikoff encountered a car in the left-hand lane driven by 53-year-old Robert Utz, who lives at that address, Meier said. The car did not pull to the right and instead stopped in the left-hand lane, Meier said.

With her lights and siren still on, Resnikoff attempted to pass the vehicle on the left, Meier said. Utz then turned left into the cruiser, Meier said.

According to an arrest report, Utz was charged with driving under the influence.

Meier said neither Resnikoff nor Utz was seriously hurt.

Utz was released on a $500 bond, an arrest report indicates.
