After a large tractor-trailer backed into a mid-size propane tank truck on Hartford Turnpike on Wednesday morning, Vernon firefighters were left with the task of meticulously - and safely - separating the vehicles.
Police at the scene said the driver appeared to be lost and did not see the propane tank on the lot at Superior Energy when trying to turn around. There was no gas leak after the collision, but the rear bumper of the tractor-trailer was stuck on the propane truck.
It took firefighters about a half-hour to untangle the trucks, Fire Chief William Call said. The tractor-trailer's bumper was removed, he said.
Check out how firefighters did it through the lens of Fire Police Lt. Charles Konarski in the attached photo essay.
