Fire Department Responds to Basement Fire

The fire chief said a dryer had caught fire.

The Vernon Fire Department responded to a basement fire at 11 Laurel St. on Thursday night.

The initial emergency report indicated that police were at the scene reporting heavy smoke.

The emergency alert call came in at 10:29.

Fire Chief William Call senator a text message about an hour later saying it was a "small dryer fire" that was quickly contained.

No injuries were reported and the fire is still being investigated.
