Vernon Fire Department Makes Quick Work of Merline Road Blaze

Firefighters were able to isolate the flames to the garage.

Vernon firefighters rushed to the scene of a garage fire at a white Cape Cod-style home on Merline Road at lunchtime today and were able to isolate the blaze and save the home.

The call at 333 Merline Road came in at 1:04 p.m. Several trucks were on the scene in minutes and the fire was under control about 20 minutes after the call came in, Fire Chief William Call said.

The fire began near the roof and spread to the garage walls, Call said.

No one was injured, Call said, and the two dogs in the house were removed safely.

Call said the residents will stay out of the home for the rest of the day while the fire is investigated.
