Friends, family members, dignitaries and members of the Fire Department on Sunday gathered in front of public safety headquarters to honor former Chief Robert Kelley.
A memorial bench was dedicated in Kelley's memory. Kelley died on Oct. 4 of last year at the age of 75.
He was a beloved and respected figure in town, ever since he joined the Rockville department in 1967. He was instrumental in the merger of the Vernon and Rockville departments and rose through the ranks to serve as chief from 1986 to 2007.
