Family Dog Bites Child in Vernon

The dog is in custody.

A local toddler escaped a tussle with the family dog on Monday.

The child suffered three puncture wounds to the face and the dog is in custody, officials said.

At 9:33 a.m., police, medics and an animal control unit were dispatched to a Summit Drive home for a reported dog bite.

According to a police report, a 2-year-old was playing with the family pit bull in a living room. The child's mom briefly went into the kitchen and returned to shelving room to find the dog biting the child police said.

The child sustained "several puncture wounds," according to an incident report, and was treated at the house before being taken to an area hospital, police said.

A police report indicates the dog was vaccinated at a clinic in Manchester but animal contrail staff members have it quarantined for 14 days before making a relocation decision.
