Ellington Man Charged After Smashing into Utility Pole in Vernon, Police Said.

He was tracked down by a police dog after fleeing the scene, a report indicates.

An underage Ellington man has been arrested on a warrant by Vernon police for allegedly taking out a utility pole on East Main Street in an unregistered car and fleeing the scene.

He is now facing a drunken driving charge, according to an arrest report. 

Thomas Patrick Sullivan, 20, of 163 Crystal Lake Rd., Ellington, was charged with not only DUI, but also failure to carry a license, an insurance violation, a lane violation and operating an unregistered vehicle, a police report indicates. 

Sullivan was involved in a one-car crash near 215 East Main St., police said. 
He broke a utility pole in the process and then fled the scene on foot, despite being injured, police said. 

He was tracked down by a police dog, police said. An arrest report did not detail the injury, but he was taken to an area hospital, police said. 

An investigation revealed that his blood alcohol content was .232, police said. 
He was released on a $10,000 surety bond and was assigned a Nov. 18 court date, police said.
