DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Vernon on Saturday

The Vernon Police Department, in conjunction with the Metro TrafficServices Unit, has scheduled a sobriety checkpoint in town on Saturday into Sunday, a news release indicates.

According to a news release, the checkpoint will be in operation from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m. on Sunday. 

A police spokesman said the exact locations of potential checkpoints are still being decided, but added that that Route 83, Route 74, Bolton Road, South Frontage Road, Route 31 and Route 30 could be involved. 

The checkpoint is being funded through a federal Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Program grant. The efforts are part of a regional effort to combat drunk driving through the use of checkpoints and roving patrols.
