DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Route 44 on Friday

Coventry Police and Metro Traffic are sponsoring the effort.

The Coventry Police Department along with other local agencies who participate in Metro Traffic Services, have scheduled a sobriety checkpoint on Boston Turnpike on Friday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday. 

Boston Turnpike is state Route 44. 

Traffic in both directions will be affected, Coventry Police mark Palmer said.  

"We ask for the cooperation of motorists as they may experience slight delays as they are guided through the checkpoint," Palmer said. 
 
Grant funding for thew program is being provided by The state Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety, "to deter and detect drunken driving and to prevent accidents, injuries or deaths caused by impaired driving."

Metro Traffic Services consists of officers from the Coventry, Enfield, South Windsor, Windsor, Windsor Locks, East Windsor, Manchester, Glastonbury and Vernon police departments.
