DUI Checkpoint Produces Arrests for Drunken Driving, Pot

More checkpoints are planned, police said.

Vernon police on Saturday conducted a sobriety checkpoint in conjunction with Metro Traffic Services. 

The checkpoint was on Windsor Ave. near Berger Road and Rocky's Hardware.
The checkpoint was set up at about 7 p.m. and it lasted until 2 a.m.

Police made the following arrests at the checkpoint, according to a news release:

1. Douglas Yarosh, 57, of 54 Prospect St., Vernon.
• Driving Under the Influence.• Bond: Posted a $1,000 non-surety bond.
• Court Date: April 29.

2. John Clark, 52, of 61 Hampden Rd, Stafford Springs.
• Driving Under Influence.• Posted a $500 non-surety bond.
• Court Date: April 29. 

3. Joshua Jurovaty, 20, 82 Rocky Hill Ave., New Britain.
• Possession of less than 4 oz. of marijuana.
• Issued an Infraction Ticket.
• Police said Jurovaty was also found to have an arrest warrant from the State Police Troop K barracks for disorderly conduct. He was turned over to state police. 

4. Daniel Kjellquist, 23, of 56 Evergreen Trail, Coventry.
• Possession of less than 4 oz. of marijuana.• Issued Infraction Ticket.

5. Jason Violette, 34, of 19 River St., Vernon.
• Possession less than 4 oz. marijuana Issued Infraction Ticket.

Police said additionally, a Vernon officer was patrolling in the area of the checkpoint operation when he observed a vehicle driving erratically on a nearby street. The officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the operator, Tuan Anh DO, 41, of 10.5 Highland Ave., Vernon, for Driving Under the Influence and Failure to Drive Right. Do was released on a $500 non-surety bond and has a court date of Ap[ril 29, police said.

The  checkpoint was part of the Comprehensive DUI Enforcement Grant funded by the state Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department Of Transportation. Vernon police will be conducting additional checkpoints and roving DUI patrols throughout the year.
