Police on Saturday conducted a series of DUI patrols as part of the State Comprehensive DIU Enforcement Grant program.
The patrols included a checkpoint on Route 83.
The patrols were staffed by Vernon police and officers from the Metro Traffic Services, a partnership of several area departments.
Arrested during the enforcement efforts were:
• Matthew Medeiros, 42, of 51 Florence Ave., Ellington. Police said his charges were DUI, operating a motor vehicle without a license, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of narcotics and possessing an open container of alcohol.
Police said a suspected crack pipe and a small amount of cocaine were found on him.
He posted a $2,500 bond and is due in court on May 24, police said.
• George Popik, 69, of 422 Lady Bug Lane, Vernon. Police said he was charged with DUI. He posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 23, police said.
• Patricia Murray, 56, of 75 Hockanum Boulevard, Vernon. She was charged with Failure to maintain insurance, operating with a suspended registration, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and making an illegal turn, police said.
• Preeman Faniel, 61, of 51 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. He was charged with first-degree failure to appear, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to maintain insurance, failure to signal a turn and interfering with police, police said.
Police said he had an arrest warrant from Willimantic police and he gave a false name when initially stopped. Identification was found in his vehicle, police said. Police said he was held in lieu of $27,500 bond and was to appear in court today.
