Drunken Man Tries to Drive Away From Diner While Police Were There, Report Says

A South Windsor man is facing charges.

A South Windsor man is facing a DUI charge after driving away from a local restaurant early this morning, despite the fact that two Vernon police officers were there, according to an arrest report.

At 3:32 a.m., while on a meal break at the Vernon Diner, an officer noticed that the man was seemingly intoxicated, police said.

According to an arrest report, the man “was in the presence of two Vernon police officers’’ at the diner, but attempted to drive away regardless. He was intercepted a short distance away and field sobriety tests revealed his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, according to an arrest report.

The diner is located at 453 Hartford Turnpike.

The man was also charged with driving in an improper lane and failing to carry adequate insurance, police said.
