[Updated] Cops Buckle Down To Make Sure Drivers Buckle Up

Vernon was the host for a Thursday morning Metro Traffic Services enforcement action in conjunction with the federal Click-It or Ticket campaign.

The enforcement action was set up near the Interstate-84 westbound on-ramp near exit 66 - Whitney T. Ferguson III Road.

Only those violating the law were pulled over, but between 8:45 and 9 - the first few minutes - about a dozen drivers were motioned to the side of the road.

The checkpoint was in operation from 8 a.m. to noon.

Officers issued 13 infractions for seat belt violations, 19 infractions for cell phone violations and 3 misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle under suspension.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided through a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and was part of the Click-It or Ticket campaign.
