Click It, Ticket, Drink it?

Police: Man observed drinking beer near seat belt checkpoint.

A 41-year-old Ellington man was arrested this week for drinking alcohol in his car while police were conducting a Click It or Ticket grant-funded checkpoint, police said.

James Latulippe, of 208 Sadds Mill Road, Ellington, was observed drinking a beer in his car while the enforcement efforts were taking place, police said.

Police said Latulippe passed a field sobriety test, but was charged with drinking while driving.

His bond was set at $500 and he is due in court on June 7, police said.

The checkpoint was set up at state Route 31 and South Grove Street.

Police wrote tickets for 39 distracted driving infractions and 38 seat belt violations at the checkpoint.
