Update: Accident Shuts Down I-84

Three individuals were transported to Hartford Hospital.

Update; 7:30 p.m.

One individual sustained serious injuries in Saturday's multi-car crash on I-84, Vernon Fire officials said.

According to police, the crash that restricted traffic on the interstate to the far-left emergency lane involved three vehicles, two of which "rolled over after leaving the highway."

The individual sustaining what police described as an "incapacitating injury" was identified by police as 68-year-old Maria Sbona of Vernon.

According to police, the extent of her injuries have not been determined.

Sbona was seated in the rear, driver side seat.

Fire officials confirmed that Lifestar arrived on the scene to transport her to the hospital, but a problem with its door prevented liftoff.

Transport to Hartford Hospital was completed by ambulance, according to fire officials.

Airbags were deployed in the accident.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

Original Story; 4:27 p.m.

All four westbound lanes were shut down Saturday afternoon as emergency units responded to a multiple-car accident at exit 64.

Lifestar responded to the scene, landing on the highway, prepared to transport individuals needing to be removed from their vehicle.

The accident, which shut down traffic around 2:30 p.m., involved two vehicles, one which remained overturned with extensive damage to its roof in the far right emergency lane.

State police and and Vernon fire responded to the scene, and directed traffic coming off of exit 64.

As of 3:25 p.m. the Lifestar helicopter had yet to lift off.

Neither the cause of the accident nor the condition of those in the vehicles are currently known.

As of 4:15 p.m., traffic was still at a standstill on the interstate.

An unrelated accident backed up traffic on routes 30 and 83.
