Mushrooms, bad checks and vandalism ...

A look at some remarkable police cases in the state.

The case: Apparently, the mushrooms in a 21-year-old Manchester man's kitchen were a little too wild.

The OMG-PD twist: The man is facing a slew of drug charges after police say they found an illegal hallucinogenic mushroom growing operation in his bedroom. According to police, spores, lights and seven different actively growing varieties of hallucinogenic mushroom cakes were seized at the man's residence, along with a small amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

The case: A Vernon woman has been arrested and charged with ripping off the elderly woman she was a part-time housekeeper for, police said late Wednesday night.

The OMG-PD Twist: Police said the investigation began when the son of a 95-year-old woman obtained durable power of attorney over his mother and found what he believed to be fraud on her checking account. He found 28 checks made out to Keller from July 13 through Aug. 8 totaling $2,480, police said.



The case: cell phione at school? Especially not for this.

The OMG-PD Twist: Greenwich Police are investigating the by eighth-grade female students at Western Middle School.



The case: Car locked?

The OMG-PD Twist: A rash of thefts from cars has Milford police encouraging residents to take extra precaution securing valuables in their vehicles.

The , which are currently under investigation, have taken place over the past few days, police said. A majority of the vehicles entered were left unlocked with items such as GPS units, iPods and loose change taken.


The case: More than a Halloween prank?

The OMG-PD Twist: More than a dozen by vandals at an East Haven cemetery last week.

The Bikur Cholim Sheveth Achim cemetery, which is just off Brockett Place, is shared by two New Haven-based Jewish synagogues.

The incident, which occured on Oct. 20, is the second episode of vandalism at the site this month. Several headstones were also reportedly knocked down by vandals on Oct. 5. The cemetery was also vandalized in 2007.
