A Drill? Car Wash? (A Little Of Both)

It was a productive drill for the fire department on Wednesday.

So driving through Rockville on Wednesday morning ...

"What the ...?"

A giant stream of water from a Vernon fire truck was soaking the parking lot at St. Bernard Church.

From East Main Street, it looked like firefighters were knocking down a vehicle fire. But a closer look showed that they were testing equipment on a pumper and a resident was taking advantage of the situation and getting his truck washed.

It is a routine exercise to keep personnel and equipment sharp, firefighters said.

"So, uh, can I get the van washed?" A passerby asked.

"Go ahead, get the pollen off," a firefighter said.

An important drill and community service all in one. It was a productive spring morning in Vernon.
