Update: 2,200 CL&P Customers Lose Power

CL&P is citing two instances of "equipment failure."

The Vernon Fire Department, local police and Connecticut Light & Power spent a good portion of Wednesday morning investigating a mysterious power outage that knocked out electricity to about 2,200 customers.

The outage occurred at about 8:15.

A CL&P spokesman Jeff Tillman said crews were eventually able to trace the outage to two instances of "equipment failure" on West Street and Tunnel Road.

Center Road School was not affected.

Police officers and firefighters were patrolling around Vernon Center just after power went out trying to determine the cause.

CL&P then began its investigation.

CL&P spokesman Jeff Tillman said the Tunnel Road situation was fixed at about 10:30 a.m. That left 290 customers still witout power in Vernon Center. The goal was to get everyone back on line by 12:30 p.m., Tillman said.
