Vernon Town Council to Discuss Budget Adjustments on Monday
The $82.6M budget proposal for 2013-14 was voted down last week.
Six days after the public threw the proposed 2013-14 budget back at them, Town Council members will meet tonight to discuss adjustments and schedule a new referendum.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Tonight was the one night this week that all 12 council members could make a meeting. The school board is also scheduled to meet tonight.
Last Tuesday, Residents and taxpayers rejected the $82.6 budget proposal as 839 folks voted no and 649 voted yes. It was a low turnout considering there are 16,264 registered voters in town. Those who own more than $1,000 in assessed property were also eligible to vote.
Though the meeting is a special one, the council, by rule, offers a citizens forum session.
Every tab on the budget is subject to being re-opened, according to the meeting agenda.
Here is what was rejected by voters:
The budget proposal totals $82,601,659, an increase of $2,002,499 over the current year's budget of $80,599,160.
