Vernon Town Council to Begin the Post-Defeat Budget Review on Monday

Survey results are being tabulated.

Town Council members have scheduled a meeting for Monday to review the numbers after voters sent the $82.6 million budget proposal for the 2013-14 fiscal year back to them.

The budget proposal was defeated 839-649 on Tuesday.

It took several motions and recesses to come up with a date that all 12 council members could be present for and the council finally settled on Monday. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

By rule, a citizens forum will be on the agenda, Mayor George Apel said.

Apel said he wanted the surveys that served as exit polls at the voting venue to be compiled by Thursday, but that could be a daunting task. It was originally anticipated that half the voters filled them out, but when an  election official delivered them to Town Hall after Tuesday's council meeting, the official said there were 800 surveys made and that more had to be made.

Council members want to use the survey results in their budget revision discussions.
