Mayor to Vernon Residents: 'Thank You'

Mayor Daniel Champagne outlined blight and the Officer Friendly program as two priorities in a Tuesday letter.

Mayor Daniel Champagne on Tuesday released the following letter to Vernon residents:

Now that the transition is complete, I would like to say thank you to the residents of Vernon for placing their trust and confidence in me.

It is also important that we all say thank you to former Mayor George F. Apel for his hard work and conservative leadership these last two years. Mayor Apel has left behind a well-managed office and a very capable staff to assist me with the upcoming budget and all the other issues that each day brings.

I promised on the campaign trail that I would bring back the Officer Friendly program in the schools and I have begun to do just that. Dr. Conway and I have discussed the program, and it will be presented to the Board of Education at an upcoming meeting.

Looking forward, it is planned to have a discussion with the full Town Council about the issue of blight and how to deal with the problems that it brings to our town. This is a multi-faceted issue we as a town will need to tackle, and together I am sure we can find the solution.

It is important that as many residents as possible become involved in the process of running our town. We have many board and commission vacancies that I would like to fill with energetic residents ready to tackle a variety of concerns. If you are interested, visit our web site www.vernon-ct.gov and click on Boards and Commissions/resume.

Submit your resume and get involved, “it’s your town, let’s fix it together!”
