Bash Mob On The Green: Education Advocates Rally At Budget Meeting

The council is preparing for the third referendum.

A crowd of residents gathered on the Vernon Green on Tuesday to lobby the Town Council to throw more money toward education as part of the 2013-14 budget process.

The demonstration took place before the council met to deliberate over the budget in anticipation of referendum No. 3.

The crowd was made up of parents, politicians and the Rockville High School Marching Ram Band.

The group was orderly but made one thing quite clear: Those in attendance were not happy with the $49.4 million earmarked for education - a number more that $2 million lighter than the Board of Education request.

The budget proposal totaled $82.6 million before the council meeting.
