The Snow is Finally Looking Good

The season seems to have turned the corner in terms of conditions.

It seems as if the season has finally turned the corner.

"I think it has and the message we are trying to get out there is — come to the mountains because there is plenty of snow," Catamount Vice President Rich Edwards said on Friday. "The base depths are good now and they became good in a hurry."

Temperatures have been cold enough overnight — generally in the mid-20s and below that — for snowmaking in the higher elevations for about two weeks.

Mother Nature has also been cooperating. A storm came through the Berkshires and into southern Vermont on Friday and dropped anywhere from 6 inches to a foot on the trails.

If you are thinking about heading out Sunday or Monday, here's a look at what is open within a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the Greater Hartford area.

Connecticut

• Sundown - 15 trails and base depths of 24 to 40 inches.
• Mount Southington - nine trails and base depths of a foot to 23 inches.
• Mohawk Mountain - 13 trails and base depths of 12 to 36 inches.
• Woodbury - a half-dozen trails and base depths of 15 to 30 inches.

Massachusetts

• Jiminy Peak - 38 trails and base depths of 15 to 40 inches.
• Catamount - 25 trails and base depths of 16 to 32 inches.
• Butternut - 22 trails and base depths of 14 to 34 inches.
• Wachusett - 17 trails and base depths of 18 to 40 inches.

Vermont

• Okemo - 72 trails and base depths of 26 to 32 inches.
• Stratton - 63 trails and base depths of 23 to 31 inches.
• Mount Snow - 36 trails and base depths of 14 to 34 inches.
• Magic Mountain - eight trails and base depths of 8 inches to a foot.
• Bromley - 27 trails and base depths of 10 to 20 inches.

Go out late a "night", when it is very quite, call his name. I have found many cats thisRead More way, because house cats don't like a lot of noise and are very afraid. Your cat is hiding, will be afraid to come out. Look in areas were there is woods, secluded areas.
