Thanks From the Vernon Youth Baseball Organization

A board meeting scheduled for Friday.

To the Editor:

The Vernon Youth Baseball Organization would like to thank all who participated in and volunteered their time for the recently completed Vernon Babe Ruth 2012 season.  Congratulations to the Cummings, Lanza & Purnhagen LLC team for their win of not only the regular season, but the season's championship tournament.

As VYBO winds down its travel team season we have several teams vying for positions in their upcoming respective tournaments.  Again, thank you to all who are participating (players and volunteers) in these amazingly competitive seasons.

At this time of year, the VYBO organization not only reflects on the season that have ended (or are ending) but also begins, in a large part, planning for the future.  Specifically the upcoming fall season. VYBO has, in recent years, worked with South Windsor, Manchester and Glastonbury in coordinating a Fall Ball league that allows players who have recently graduated from the Little League fields to gain valuable experience on the larger standard baseball field.  The fall season provides an excellent opportunity for those younger players to acclimate to the larger field in a relaxed but learning setting along with other age appropriate players (up to 15).

As you know, in addition to the registration fees paid by players, VYBO is run entirely on the generosity of sponsors and volunteers.  Currently the Board of Directors has five directors in place and four positions open.  While it pains the board to say this, the upcoming fall season is in jeopardy. Without volunteers to assist with the program such as managers, coaches and fall ball director(s) we will be unable to field teams from Vernon.

The board of directors will be meeting on Friday, July 20, to discuss this as well as other matters.  We are asking that any/all who are interested in volunteering for the upcoming fall baseball season contact Dave Glidden at 860-872-0455 or email the board at vybo@comcast.net prior to that board meeting.
