No Room for Communication Breakdowns

Letter to the editor.

To the Editor:

Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it(Attributed by some to Mark Twain).

We have a similar situation here in Vernon.  We have candidates for Mayor who talk about cooperation in government but they are not saying how that should be done. Here are some ideas that would allow us to truly be make that happen:

1) A member from each party on the Town Council would be "PAIRED" together. The two members would be encouraged to communicate with each other on issues affecting the town. Receiving input from each other and a discussion of differences can lead to a more unified Council. Ideas would be shared and vetted before any misunderstandings arise. We would also allow them to sit next to each other at meetings so that quick chat may lead to a more unified approach to problems solving.

2) We need to return to the age of free flowing information. When a request is made for information, it will be provide quickly and easily without the interference of attorneys unless there is a legitimate legal issue involved.

3) Agenda items will be added and properly handled. Appropriate parties notified as expeditiously as possible, recognizing the fact that an item may be delayed for a reasonable period of time (or by Charter) so that the all involved can be sufficiently prepared.

The Democratic Team, led by Polly Schaefer, is dedicated to progressive action to make Vernon a better place to live. Please support us with your vote on November 8.

Democratic Candidate for Town Council
