Obituary: Fay Snyder, 75, Former Senior Services Director in Vernon

Fay G. Snyder, 75, of Somers, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2014, at Orchard Valley Senior Living in Wilbraham, Mass.

Born August 19, 1938 in Tampa, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Dale and Lois (Tharpe) Godwin. With much determination, Snyder attended seven colleges to receive her degree and graduated from Central Connecticut State University with her Masters of Science in Social Work.

On January 29, 1958, Snyder was united in marriage to her husband of over 56 years, John Snyder, and together they resided in Somers for over 25 years. She was the director of Senior Services at the Hockanum Valley Community Council in Vernon.

Snyder spent the majority of her time providing services to senior citizens. When she wasn’t busy assisting others, she enjoyed admiring and adding to her expansive owl collection.

Along with her loving husband, John, Snyder will be greatly missed by her two children, Nancy Fleury and her husband, Dan, of Mendon, Mass. and J. Daniel Snyder IV and his wife, Deceil Moore-Snyder, of Dunkirk, Ind.; and her five grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, David, Matt and Elara. Besides her parents, Snyder was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Denham.
