Champagne Elected Mayor of Vernon

Preliminary numbers indicate a Republican sweep.

Daniel Champagne, a Vernon native and former police sergeant in his hometown, was elected as Vernon's next mayor on Tuesday.

Unofficial results - from party runners - show that Champagne, a Republican, received 2,932 votes. Democrat Thomas DiDio, a Town Council member over the past term who is active in the Rockville Community Alliance, received 1,898.

Champagne said the feeling is "surreal." DiDio in a concession speech, said he would continue to volunteer with the RCA and reman active at the municipal level.

Results from runners show that the election was a complete Republican sweep.
