The Top Story of 2012: The Effects of Newtown

We might be feeling it into 2013.

So we went into mid-December to get our top story.

And most of us would rather pass on it.

It's ugly - the effect of the Dec. 14 school shootings in Newtown.

The town - just like the state and the nation - was stunned and even today, residents weep over what went on.

The police chief reminded us that safety precautions are in place and the superintendent of schools offered comforting words.

The town conducted a vigil and efforts were put in place to help out neighbor to the west.

Alas, applications for pistol permits are up, so we will likely be feeling the effects of the incident well into 2013.
