Shelter Closed, Showers Still Available

The Community Pool dressing rooms are open before and after work.

Mayor Jason McCoy said today that the Hurricane Irene emergency shelter at Vernon Center Middle School has been closed as a result of Connecticut Light and Power's progress in power restoration.

"While progress has been made in restoring power throughout the town, there are still residents who remain without power," McCoy said. "As we continue our storm cleanup, we will be taking every step necessary to ensure that public safety is upheld. I urge residents to continue to use caution and I thank the members of the community for their continued patience and understanding as CL&P works to restore service."

A recharging station is available for personal electronic devices at the Vernon Police Station located at 725 Hartford Turnpike.

Additionally, showering facilities are available at the community pool house located at 375 Hartford Turnpike from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4  to 6 p.m.

McCoy said residents should call 911 in the event of a life-threatening emergency.
