Powerless and Hungry?

It's hit or miss in town, but there can be some success along Route 83.

As Irene began moving out in the late afternoon, pubic safety officials were still telling residents to use extreme caution - if not to stay away - along the Route 30 corridor while they assessed the damage. Several major wires and some large trees were down.

That left Route 83, but it was still hit or miss as dinnertime approached and the people without power were looking for food and supplies.

About 1,500 Connecticut Light & Power customers were without power for most of the day.

There was some success - at least in one condensed area along the Route 83 Corridor.

The Valero station at the corner of Route 83 and Regan Road  was open early this morning and was actually supplying gasoline, but it closed during the height of the storm.

Across the street, Panda Palace was open and getting its orders out quickly. Walgreens next door was open as well.

Further toward Rockville, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, Dania Food Mart and CVS were open.

Both Center Pizza and the Stone & Paddle were open.
