Hurricane Sandy: Mayor Declares a Disaster, Superintentent Distributes School Closing Letter

On Sunday afternoon, Superintendent of Schools Mary Conway announded that Vernon schools would be closed on Monday and Tuesday because of Hurricane Sandy. 

In addition to an emergency alert call, she published a letter to parents and guirdians of all Vernon students.

A short time later, Mayor George Apel declared a local state of emergency.
