Bites Nearby: Angellino's

With locations in Mansfield and Vernon, Angellino's serves the entire region.

It's not a bad concept:

Good tasting Italian food.

Decent portions.

Comfortable decor.

Two locations - Vernon and Mansfield - that make the restaurant accessible from all over north central Connecticut.

Welcome to Angellino's.

Angellino's is known for a friendly wait staff and extensive menu. The chef posts specials daily and the staple Italian specialties on the menu include gorgonzola chicken, veal marsala, seafood ravioli and chicken Milanese. The restaurant also has several traditional offerings from ''Mama's kitchen.''

Diners can also create their own parmigiana with meatballs, veal, eggplant or chicken.

But the most appealing pat of the menu might be the most basic - create your own pasta. The choices of pasta are extensive and so are the sauce options:

• Alfredo.
• Meat sauce.
• Tomato Cream.
• Carbonara.
• Tomato Vodka.
• Garlic and olive oil.
• Fra diavlo.
• Basil pesto cream.
• Firenze tomato basil cream.
• Gorgonzola cream.

Even the bread is a classic with the option of roasted garlic to top it and olive oil for dipping.

The atmosphere is conducive to every occasion with booths for a quiet night out, center tables for larger groups and separate rooms for very large meetings or gatherings. The restaurant even caters to private parties.

One big tip, aside from the one for the wait staff - get there early on the weekends because the place can fill up during peak hours.

Open daily for lunch and dinner - 135 Storrs Road, Mansfield, 860-456-7071; 346 Kelly Road, Vernon, 860-644-7702.  Entrees range from $12.99 to $19.99.

The last time we ate there my mother who is a senior had a screw in her food and when we spoke to the manager about it we were treated rather badly. She could have gotten really hurt.
Good food just be careful.

I have always had good food at Angellino's. Tho I did once have a waitress who was less than stellar- hopefully only a one time occurrence.

I have discovered from researching the new “rigorous” National Common Core Standards.Read More First of all, I learned that in order for our state to receive available Federal stimulus money, state Governors and Chief State School Officers around the country were required to sign a Memo of Understanding by January 2010 promising to adopt a national common standard. I also learned that local district Superintendents and School Board Presidents were encouraged by the state to sign a similar Memo of Understanding by May 28, 2010 if they wanted their district to receive any of the money.

I have to agree with J.L. Why in the world wouldn't you talk directly to the teacher if this was anRead More issue? It is really easy to throw a screen name into the mix and complain for all of Vernon to see here on the Patch. It's time to stop perpetuating the negativity. The town council, BoE, and Dr. Conway are just starting to make some headway with education progress in Vernon, this isn't helping. Try to remember that our kids teachers are our neighbors here in Vernon and to attack them anonymously here...NOT COOL!

Right on Nancy! Negativity begets negativity and that is exactly what we don't need now. TheRead More taxpayers of this town stepped up and allowed the BOE to prevail on referendum day. Time for parents to take a breather over the summer and let the BOE and Supt. do their work on plans to improve. Some people get so caught up in a fight that they can't drop it. Credit the Patch for many recent articles about the good things that kids are doing. Hope they keep it up. That's what we need to right now, especially when we have just been given new hope for the center of Rockville. Let's stop airing our "dirty laundry" to the rest of CT. It's a new day!
