ECHN Vernon Family Resource Center Offers Educational Playgroups & Home Visits

The ECHN Family Resource Center, Maple Street School, 20 Maple St., Vernon, offers parent educational workshops, educational playgroups, positive youth development, home/personal visits for young families, child developmental assessments, family literacy, support to childcare providers, and links to preschool education, school-age childcare, adult education, and referrals to community resources. Here are its popular playgroups:

Playgroups

Playing with Grandma and Grandpa:
Come join the fun. We will exercise, blow bubbles, sing make music with rhythm instruments, and play with the parachute. Children will also have the opportunity to practice playing guitar. This unique playgroup gives families the chance to have fun and get to know the residents at Foxhill Center. It includes a free “Ages and Stages” screening and personal visit with a certified Parent Educator.

Storybooks and Creations
Join us for a special story hour for your 2- to 4-year-old, presented by ECHN'S Family Resource Center and the Rockville Public Library.  "Mrs. Z," the children's librarian will read stories that both children and adults love, followed by activities that make the stories come alive! The program includes a free “Ages and Stages” screening and personal visit with a certified Parent Educator.

Parent/Child Play and Learn Together
This educational playgroup is for children ages 2 to 5. Learning activities are provided for parents and children to do together. They include art projects, story time, singing and educational toys. Snack is included. Your registration entitles you to a free “Ages and Stages” developmental screening and a personal visit with a certified Parent Educator. Parents will receive weekly parent resources.

Parents as Teachers Home Visiting Program

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a nationally recognized program available to Vernon parents and expecting parents, free of charge, through ECHN’s Family Resource Center in Vernon.

What is PAT?
PAT is a parent-child early childhood education program based on the belief that parents are their child’s first and best teachers.  It is our goal to help you give your child the best possible start in life.
