The Cornerstone SOUPFEST is another HUGE success!

The 2013 Cornerstone Foundation "SOUPFEST"

We are thankful for all of those who support our efforts in the community!

The Annual “SOUPFEST” supporting Cornerstone Foundation, recently took place on Thursday, Nov 7, in St. Bernard’s Hall in Rockville.

Over 200 people enjoyed the friendly and extremely tasteful competition between the Vernon Fire Department, Crystal Lake Fire Department and East of the River Explorers.

The meal and admission were free and funds were raised through the sale of raffle tickets and a Silent Auction. Over 200 people supported the efforts to raise funds for Cornerstone which runs a Community Center, Clothing Bank, Soup Kitchen and Homeless Shelter. Cornerstone never charges for any of the services that support the Vernon community. The Cornerstone receives help from the Town of Vernon and the rest comes from generous donors, funders, local businesses and the faith-community.

Cornerstone Board President Angela Atwater and Helen Syriac, the Founder and Executive Director of Cornerstone welcomed those in attendance.

The highlight of the evening was when three individuals who were helped by Cornerstone gave their testimony to what makes this charitable organization so unique.  They said that when everyone else had given up on them, Cornerstone was still there to help them get back on their feet. For this, they were eternally grateful!

There were two SOUPFEST categories, the “People’s Choice Award” which was won by the Ambulance Corps with their “Roasted Butternut Chestnut Soup” and the “Judges Award” which was given to Ellington's Crystal Lake Fire House for their “Lasagna Soup.”

The SOUP JUDGES for the evening were chefs Al Bauer and Joan Zwick. Paul Sheridan served as the M.C for the evening. The Bluegrass band, “Grass Routes” provided excellent entertainment when the soups were being enjoyed.
