VERNON SCHOOLS GET OVER $2 MILLION NEW FUNDING IN STATE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION BILL
I am happy to announce funding for four Vernon schools was included in the legislature’s School Construction Bill (SB 876).
Due to an auditing issue involving space standards calculations and projected outdated highest enrollments, Vernon Public Schools was in jeopardy of losing a significant amount of pending state school construction grant reimbursements without legislative action.
After being alerted of the problem in January by Vernon's Public Schools’ Director of Business and Finance, I reached out to the chairs of the legislature’s Education Committee to request that funding be included in the school construction bill by special legislative language. Although I had secured a commitment for the language to be included in the School Construction Bill, no promises were made as to the actual amount Vernon could expect due to the budget crunch the state is facing.
I want to thank the Chairs of the Education Committee, Representative Andrew Fleischmann and Senator Andrea Stillman as well as the house leadership for working with me to secure this funding for Vernon. They listened and Vernon is slated to receive the full over $2 million dollar request that was made. It's a big win for our community and a big plus for our school system.
A breakdown of the funding for the specific Vernon schools is shown below.
School Approved funding
Center Road School - Vernon $114,460
Lake Street School - Vernon $139,016
