REP. JANOWSKI CONDUCTS LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FOR SENIORS

I was happy to hold a forum for seniors at the Vernon Senior Center this past Wednesday.  The legislative update focused on programs, legislative issues and new laws important to seniors.  I was joined at the event by State Department on Aging Commissioner Edith Prague who spoke about the new department she will be heading.

The annual meeting is a great way to make seniors aware of all the benefits available to them at the state level, gain input about their needs and listen to their concerns.

More than 85 people attended the legislative forum which began with a brief presentation about changes in laws affecting seniors and important state programs.  Commissioner Prague also provided a brief presentation of the role of the new State Department on Aging while the last half hour was reserved for questions by those in attendance.

The discussion included a brief update on 2013 Laws affecting seniors and programs currently available to assist seniors including Dial-A-Ride transportation, the Medicare Savings Program, Connecticut Homecare Program, State Property Tax Relief Programs, Rental Rebate Program, Energy Savings Programs and other helpful information.

Numerous informational handouts were available at the session to keep seniors informed and up-to-date with legislative changes.
