Vernon/Rockville Housing Projects Get A Boost

Almost $10 million in state funding will help redevelop theVernon's Old Talcott Brothers' Mill and Loom City Lofts, previously known as Roosevelt Mills.

I am happy to announce state funds for two housing projects in Vernon and Rockville.  The Old Talcott Brothers’ Mill and Loom City Lofts, previously known as Roosevelt Mills, were two of nine projects statewide to receive a share of than $29 million through the Competitive Housing Assistance for Multifamily Properties (CHAMP) initiative at the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).

I want to thank Governor Malloy for this investment in Rockville and Vernon.

I have been involved with the Roosevelt Mill/Loom City Lofts project since 2006 when a $1.2 million grant was approved for demolition work needed to ready the site for development and have continually advocated for funding to enable the completion of the project. The funding is great news.

The Talcott Brothers’ Mill has been abandoned for many years and the grant will put this property back on the tax rolls and help revitalize the Talcottville section of town. It’s a great plus for our community and I again wish to thank the Governor and DECD for their vision.

The CHAMP funding includes:
