Rockville General Hospital Receives ACR Accreditation For Mammography Services

The Medical Imaging Department at Rockville General Hospital (RGH) has been awarded another three-year term of accreditation for its mammography services as the result of a recent on-site review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). In fiscal year 2013, 1,469 mammograms were performed at RGH.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice.  Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their finding to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

Accreditation by the ACR provides the public, referring physicians, other healthcare providers, and insurance companies with evidence that the accredited facility offers comprehensive health care services.
