Tractor Supply Construction Under Way in Vernon

The chain could bring 17 jobs to town.

When construction is complete on the new Tractor Supply store on Route 83, a dozen to 17 full- and part-time jobs will be coming to Vernon, officials for the national chain said.

Construction is under way and the official address will 404 Talcottville Road - what that section of Route 83 is called locally.

It will be the company’s ninth Connecticut location.

Officials from the parent company, Tractor Supply Company, said the chain is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store network in the United States with more than 1,100 stores in 44 states.

Tractor Supply has been operating in Connecticut since 2004.

The Vernon store will include sales floor and support service space, chain officials said. A fenced exterior space will be used for storage and displaying items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment, they said.

The chain will have a new space on the northern end of the plaza  that sits just north of the Aldi supermarket.

“Tractor Supply looks forward to being a member of the Vernon business community,” District Manager Alan Morris said. “Vernon is a great fit due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area.”

The contractor for the project is W.R. Newman of Nashville, Tenn. A completion date has been tentatively set for early November, chain  officials said.

The Tractor Supply Company trades on the Nasdaq market under the symbol TSCO.

Tractor Supply stores are usually located in the outlying towns in major metropolitan markets and in rural communities.

Tractor Supply Company stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of "recreational farmers and ranchers," officials serif.

In addition to farming and garden supplies, the chain features light truck equipment, work clothing for the entire family, and an extensive line of seasonal products, including lawn and garden power equipment products.
