(Updated); Vernon Has Plenty of Economic Development Activity Along Route 83

Tractor Supply could open by Nov. 10.

The Route 83 corridor in Vernon between Pitkin Street Road Merline Road has become a hotbed of development.

The road is known locally as Talcottville Road.

Cardio Express has been in its new home for some time and Shaun Gately, Vernon's Economic Development Director, said he and the buildings owners have been actively marketing the remaining available space in the building.

A gas station featuring a Blimpie shop has been open for about two weeks.

A Tractor Supply store has been anchoring the efforts. Michael Graham, a spokesman for the national chain, said store's soft opening is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 10 with a grand opening celebration slated for Nov. 17. Mayor George Apel said he would like to perform a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony there.

Cumberland Farms last week closed on a parcel at 327 Talcottville Road. Gately said he has not been made aware of any construction timetable for a new convenience store, but stressed the chain "now owns the land."

Gately said he is also actively marketing the land to the immediate north of Tractor Supply and the parcel to the immediate south of the plaza at the 400 block of Talcottville Road.

Cumberland Farms representatives could not be reached for comment in Thursday. There is a Cumberland Farms adjcen t to the Cardio building on Talcottville Road.
