Rockville Bank Hosting Shred Day on Saturday

Old documents will be taken at the South Windsor home office.

Rockville Bank is sponsoring one of its annual regional Shred Days on Saturday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Document shredding stations will be set up at the Rockville Bank home office, 1645 Ellington Rd, South Windsor.

Bank officials said that identity Theft is the top consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission, and as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen every year. Identity Theft can cost a victim thousands of dollars in bad debt and legal expenses, creating financial and emotional havoc for years, bank officials said. That’s why Rockville Bank is hosting Shred Day, officials said.

The bank has hired Infoshred of East Windsor, one of Connecticut’s largest professional shredding companies, to provide the service.

Up to two boxes measuring 10 inches high-by-12.5 inches wide-by-16 inches deep of outdated documents per household may be brought to Shred Day. That  includes outdated or sensitive information documents such as medical and financial records, credit card statements, canceled checks, insurance forms, old tax returns, and any other personal documents.

“We host two or more Shred Days every year to help local residents keep their identities safe,” said William H. W. Crawford IV, the bank's president and chief executive officer. “It is so important that we offer this service at no cost to everyone – not just for our customers. Protection from identification fraud is of utmost importance to our company.”

There is no charge for the shredding and no advance registration is needed to participate.
