Rockville Bank Branch at Lafayette Square Officially Back in Business

In a twist on the traditional grand opening ceremony, area business, community and government leaders on Tuesday cut a ribbon made out of dollar bills.

Remember that snow?

No, that other snow. The snow last winter. You know, the heavy stuff that took down several barns and buildings in the region.

Rockville Bank has finally closed its books on the record setting snowfall and  officially opened its new branch at Lafayette Square at 20 Hyde Ave., also known as Route 30, right near the Vernon-Tolland line. In January, the bank closed its original Lafayette Square office because of roof damage related to the region’s record heavy snow.

The new branch office began serving customers again about two weeks ago.

In a twist on the traditional grand opening ceremony, area business, community and government leaders on Tuesday cut a ribbon made out of dollar bills.

The branch was constructed in the same location as the building that was demolished in May. The bank had been operating a temporary Lafayette Square branch nearby at the former Tim Hortons doughnut shop.

The Lafayette Square branch features four teller counter stations, two drive-up teller windows, drive-up and walk-up automated teller machines, and safe deposit boxes.

The office offers customers a document shredder, and a flat-panel LCD screen to provide customers with news, weather, sports and business information. The branch also features a refreshment center.

Rockville Bank has 22 branches in Tolland, Hartford and New London counties.
