Ground Broken for New Cumberland Farms on Route 83

A state-of-the-art store is planned for a parcel across from Spare Time.

With cars buzzing by in the background, town leaders and representatives from Cumberland Farms on Tuesday broke ground for a new store on Route 83  that could open as early as the first quarter of 2013.

The local address is 333 Talcottville Road, across and down the street from the Spare Time bowling center abutting Hockanum Boulervard.

“Cumberland Farms is very proud to be a member of the Vernon community. We would like to thank Mayor George Apel, Economic Development Coordinator Shaun Gately, the Planning and Zoning Commission and all of the town departments and officials we have had the pleasure of working with to make this new store a possibility,” said Ari Haseotes, president of the Cumberland Farms retail division.  “We are excited about this project, and look forward to serving the residents of Vernon and the surrounding area at our new location when it opens next year.”

Cumberland Farms officials said the store will be "state-of-the art."

Mayor George Apel estimated a three-to-four-month construction period. He called the endeavor is valued "partnership."

Cumberland Farms officials made no predictions on what is to become of the current store just to the north.
