Local Business To Celebrate Ruby Anniversary

Rein’s New York Style Deli Restaurant, located in Vernon, will celebrate its 40th anniversary in October. The legendary restaurant will host special events, special meals and special offers throughout its two-week celebration. To top it all off, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the National MS Society and the Hockanum Valley Community Council (HVCC).

Rein’s Deli, which was founded in 1972 by Bob Rein and his wife, Betty, and his brother, Bernie, will celebrate 40 years of dedicated service Monday Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 28. The family-run business, situated just off I-84 in Vernon, is a hotspot for leaf peepers and road-weary travelers shuttling between New York City and Boston.

“Rein’s is a traditional New York-style Jewish deli,” said Bonnie Rein, daughter to Bob and Betty. “We serve comfort food at its best. Like my father always said, we serve ‘Food that feeds the soul and warms the heart.’ Rein’s Deli is committed to its customers and dedicated to serving quality meals made with care.”

Celebrated beyond the boundaries of Connecticut, Rein’s Deli has graced the pages of both novels and travel guides. With new fast food restaurants popping up almost daily, customer loyalty can be a thing of the past. However, Rein’s customers return time and again for the homemade foods they love – mac and cheese, pastrami and corned beef, pickles and hand cut lox. They make and serve old fashioned favorites, such as rice pudding, sour cream coffee cake and baked custard bread puddings. Rein’s also offers a gluten free menu, also prepared by hand.

Rein’s Deli, long-known for its community outreach, will recognize the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, Monday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 21. Throughout the week, Rein’s will offer gift cards (two $5 restaurant vouchers) as a” thank you” for a $10 donation to the National MS Society. This special offer, however, is limited to one gift card per customer.

The restaurant will also offer featured beverages sold in a limited edition 40th Anniversary mugs. For every mug purchased for $10, $5 will benefit the National MS Society. Rein’s will host a special weeklong dining event in which 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to MS. These meals, which include two main course meals, drinks and a homemade dessert, feature a special 1972 anniversary price point. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, Rein’s will donate $1 for every customer dining at Rein’s during the lunch hours. The restaurant will also donate $1 for each dessert ordered from the specialty dessert menu. The Tuesday lunch menu will feature a variety of specials.

“We are very excited to celebrate our anniversary with our customers,” said Bonnie. “This is a time to thank them for their loyalty and support. Throughout the celebration, each day we will offer a special anniversary rollback menu item. When a customer orders that menu item at full price, he or she will receive a second for just 40 cents.”

The National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, will have representatives on-site throughout the week and will bus tables for guests attending the special Tuesday lunch celebration.

“Members and staff from the National MS Society will be on hand Tuesday, Oct. 16, during the lunch hour, busing tables, hosting drawings and celebrating with Rein’s staff their 40 years of success,” said Karen Butler, Manchester, National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter spokesperson. “We are so grateful to Rein’s for its support of people in Connecticut battling the unpredictable and potentially debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis. We are inviting our members and supporters to join us as together we join Rein’s in this special anniversary celebration. On a personal note, I can’t wait to sink my fork into the pumpkin bread pudding!”
