ECHN Closes Walkways Near Rockvile General Hospital Mansion Entrance

The sidewalks are "worn" according to the company.

Eastern Connecticut Health Network, the parent company of Rockville General Hospital, said on Thursday that until the "worn and broken" walkways leading to Maxwell Mansion entrance are "removed and replaced," the hospital’s front entrance area will be closed to foot traffic for public safety reasons.

The Mansion has not been used as the the main entrance to the hospital since 2004, when a new main entryway and visitors parking lot - right off Union Street - were constructed following the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department.

However, the area still gets considerable foot traffic, sometimes out of habit, and some visitors and patients have continued to enter the hospital through the Mansion.

"Because your safety is important to us, we ask that you park in the visitors parking lot and not on the street or in the Emergency Department lot unless your visit is an emergency," ECHN said in a statement.

No timetable for walkway construction was given in a news release issued on Friday.
