Rockville Public Library Schedules Another Session for New Grant Resource Program

The session is scheduled for Aug. 22.

Non-profit organizations and other groups seeking grants in Vernon and surrounding towns looking for funding sources now have access to a new collection of resources at the .

The library which has been named a Cooperating Collection by the Foundation Center of New York.

Library officials said the foundation, established in 1956, is the nation’s leading authority on organized philanthropy, serving "grant-seekers, grant-makers, researchers, policy-makers, the media, and the public." Designation as a Cooperating Collection enables the Rockville Public Library to provide "under-resourced and under-served non-profit groups and individuals in need of vital information and training with tools they can use to become successful grant-seekers," library officials said.

Library officials said that, at locations throughout the country, Cooperating Collections offer access - free of charge - to the Foundation Center’s detailed database on grants and how to apply for them. The Foundation Center’s core collection includes electronic resources such as The Foundation Directory Online, which profiles more than 100,000 U. S. grant sources; Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, the only online resource devoted exclusively to foundations that support the needs of individuals; and Philanthropy In/Sight, which combines data on grant-makers and their grants with Google maps to reveal patterns of philanthropy.

In addition to these and other online resources, the Rockville Public Library has a core collection of print media available for use and a dedicated computer and printer for non-profit grant-seekers to use when researching grants and philanthropy.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. until noon, the library will conduct another training session for members of local non-profit organizations who were not able to attend the first class.

There is no charge for the class but seating is limited. To enroll, e-mail Sharon Redfern, the Rockville Public Library's collection supervisor, at sredfern@biblio.org or call 860-875-5892, ext. 22.
