Library Hosting Lincoln-Booth Presentation

The historical talk is slated for the May 5 meeting of the Library Friends.

The Friends of the Rockville Public Library are sponsoring a program on John Wilkes Booth as part of their meeting on May 5.

The presentation by Vernon Historical Society President Connie Statton is scheduled for noon in the Edith Peck Room on the library's lower level.

Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln in Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865.

Statton, who has studied the Civil War throughout her adult life and has attended the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College for 19 years, will include in her presentation information about the assassination plot, Booth’s escape and his eventual capture.

She will also discuss what became of the “Lincoln Flags,” the flags that hung by the box Lincoln occupied in the theatre when he was shot.

A brief business meeting will take place after Satton’s presentation.

The Rockville Public Library is located at 52 Union St.  Parking is located in back of the library. For more information, call the library at 860-875-5892, ext. 21.
