Janowski Sounds Out the Alphabet at the Library

Animal sounds and letters were all part of her story hour session.

It was state Rep. Claire Janowski's turn to read at the Rockville Public Library story hour and boy did she pick a good one for the 30-or-so children gathered around her.

It was "The New Animal Alphabet" by Christopher Wormell an she was at the O page, which featured an Owl.

"What sound does an Owl make?" Janowski asked the children.

"Whoooooooooooooo … Whooooooooooooooooooo!''

Moments later, it was the S page - a sheep, of course.

"Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa … Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!''

And so it went … 26 animals, 26 rounds of yelling their sounds.

The large gathering was the result of three factors - the normally busy Tuesday mornings and field trips from the Indian Valley YMCA's Elm Street branch and the Academy of Art and Learning on Talcottville Road. It was all fine with Janowski after a stressful session at the State House.

"I really enjoy reading to the children,'' she said. "It's fun … The kids are vert demonstrative and they will tell you whatever is on their minds.''

The Rockville Public Library has one of the busiest simmer sessions around and the session with Janowski was the latest installment in what is to be a busy next few days.
