They Called Me Lizzy...from Slavery to the White House written and directed by Kandie Kathleen Carle

Actor Stephanie Jackson portrays Elizabeth (Hobbs) Keckly, an enslaved woman who persevered to become dressmaker to President Abraham Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, in this one-person theatrical performance. In addition to being Mary Todd Lincoln's seamstress, Elizabeth Keckly was most notably known for being Mary Todd's personal modiste and confidante. Performed in retrospect, this dramatic recounting of Lizzy's experiences is much more than a slave narrative; it is a human story filled with tragedy and triumphs. Elizabeth Keckly's true life story is one of bravery, ingenuity, and resilience, following her rise from slavery to entrepreneurial freedom, then from scandal and decline
