Warming / Charging Stations at Senior Center, VCMS Shelter in Full Operation

The town has set up shuttles for shelter.

The town has set up a warming and charging station at the Vernon Senior Center that will be open on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The center is located at 26 Park Place.

It will not serve as an overnight shelter for residents seeking refuge.

Residents seeking overnight shelter should go to Vernon Center Middle School, located at 777 Hartford Turnpike.

The VCMS shelter was opened on Saturday in anticipation of Winter Storm Alfred, and it will remain open twenty four hours per day. Residents are reminded to bring bedding and any essential supplies to the shelter, which is also pet-friendly.

The Town of Vernon is providing a shuttle bus to the shelter at VCMS. The shuttle will pick up on the hour until 6:00 p.m. Pick up will be at the following locations:

• Northeast School (69 East Street)
• Maple Street School (20 Maple Street)
• Skinner Road School (90 Skinner Road)
• Rockville High School (70 Loveland Hill Road)
• Center Road School (20 Center Road)
• Lake Street School (201 Lake Street)

Mayor Jason McCoy said residents who notice downed power lines are to avoid them and to call 911. He said residents are "strongly urged" to report any unreported power outages to Connecticut Light & Power at 800-286-2000 or 860-947-2000.
